The Artificial Intelligence Innovation Alliance promotes the creation of a community
that brings together entrepreneurs, researchers, and educators
Alicante, July 24, 2024 – ValgrAI, in collaboration with Torre Juana, organized the first edition of the AIIA Innovation Day, an event dedicated to exploring and promoting innovative applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in various industrial sectors. The event, held at Torre Juana, brought together numerous Alicante entrepreneurs with experts, academics, and technology professionals from all over the Valencian Region with the aim of sharing knowledge, experiences, and the latest trends in AI.
This initiative is part of the Artificial Intelligence Innovation Alliance and aims not only to create a knowledge-sharing community among the different stakeholders but also to foster creative networking spaces to boost the Valencian business ecosystem. In fact, a second edition of this event is scheduled to be held in Castellón in October.
The AIIA Innovation Day featured the presence of Jorge Capel from Nunsys, who, through the presentation “Expert Knowledge in Generative AI,” introduced the Vekai initiative, an AI solution for business knowledge management that connects documents, emails, and other resources, improving productivity by validating and interlinking data with a single click. Miguel Ángel Teruel from Lucentia, in his talk “New Capabilities for Your Company through Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality,” discussed Big Data analytics, predictive analysis methods, cloud computing, IoT, and data visualization, showcasing practical applications such as predicting failures in industrial turbines.
Similarly, Carlos Flores from the Universtitat de València, in his talk “Quantum Convolutional Networks for Medical Image Classification,” presented his project on hybrid quantum-classical models to improve image classification and disease detection, such as breast cancer, using advanced deep learning techniques.
Also, in the presentation “Taking AI with You: Beyond the Desktop” by Juan Jesús Izquierdo Doménech from the Universtitat Politècnica de València, he addressed practical applications of Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence, enabling solutions to improve efficiency and decision-making.
The second part of the AIIA Innovation Day consisted of a round table titled “Keys to Boosting Business Innovation with Artificial Intelligence,” moderated by the General Director of ValgrAI and VRAIN, Vicente Botti, with participants Andrés Pedreño Muñoz, professor of economics and founder of Torre Juana OST; Juan Carlos Trujillo, Professor at the University of Alicante and director of the ENIA chair; and Jordi Linares, PhD, teaching coordinator of ValgrAI and researcher at the Polytechnic University of Valencia.
During the session, Linares noted that artificial intelligence is revolutionizing various sectors, and its impact is being felt both in identifying opportunities and in integrating and defining semantic data. Pedreño emphasized that the key is to foster a business culture that accelerates learning and eliminates fear of new technologies, as Spain has the potential to be a powerhouse in AI if the right steps are taken and an agile and efficient framework is established. Trujillo mentioned that AI is at the center of digital transformation. AI, combined with the Internet of Things (IoT), facilitates real-time decision-making and solves complex problems. After this round table, an interesting networking session took place where attendees could exchange views.
The AIIA, driven by ValgrAI, is an innovation ecosystem that promotes the adoption of advanced technologies in the industry. Through events such as the AIIA Innovation Day, ValGRai seeks to inspire and empower companies to leverage the competitive advantages of AI and other emerging technologies.
ValgrAI (Valencian Graduate School and Research Network of Artificial Intelligence) is a non-profit foundation formed by the Generalitat Valenciana, the five public universities of the Valencian Region (UV, UPV, UA, UJI, and UMH), and sector companies that coordinate the study and research in Artificial Intelligence in the Valencian Region to respond to the technological needs of companies and promote the creation of new talent in artificial intelligence, thus renewing the production model of the Valencian Region.
The project seeks cooperation between knowledge generators (teachers and researchers), companies, and productive sectors interested in this technology, with the aim of turning the Valencian Region into a center of excellence in Artificial Intelligence technologies.
