Alicante. Tuesday, July 18, 2023 – The ValgrAI Foundation (Valencian Graduate School and Research Network of Artificial Intelligence) and the Institute of Computer Research (IUII – Instituto Universitario de Investigación Informática) at Universitat d’Alacant held a presentation session today at the auditorium of the Institutes Building at the University of Alicante. The meeting highlighted the initiatives and objectives of the foundation, which will soon celebrate its one-year anniversary, as well as those of the university institute.

The main purpose of this meeting was to establish an initial connection between ValgrAI and IUII in order to explore potential avenues for future collaboration in research and training in the field of Artificial Intelligence. It also aimed to discuss common interests and areas of specialization in which ValgrAI and IUII could join forces to promote research and academic excellence in Artificial Intelligence.

The event began with an opening statement by the Vice-Rector of Digital Transformation, Rafael Molina, who emphasized that the creation of this foundation is “a great opportunity to develop this new technology, which is destined to change our lives.” This was followed by the presentation of IUII by its director, Antonio Pertusa. Subsequently, Vicente Botti and Ana Cidad, the general director and managing director of ValgrAI, shared the vision and objectives of the foundation, highlighting their commitment to promoting academic excellence and interdisciplinary collaboration in Artificial Intelligence research in the Valencian region.

The event continued with the presentation of the Expert Course in Human Language Technologies by the director of the Department of Languages and Computer Systems, Armando Suarez. This course, designed to provide students with an immersive and enriching learning experience, will offer a unique opportunity to deepen their knowledge and fundamental skills in the field of human language technologies, and it is expected to commence before the end of the year.

The meeting concluded with an enriching debate on the possibilities of collaboration and new alliances in artificial intelligence between ValgrAI and the members of IUII. Moderated by the director of IUII, they discussed opportunities for joint research and the impact of artificial intelligence in various fields.
